“Becoming Caitlin Clark” is available now!
Howard Megdal’s newest book is here! “Becoming Caitlin Clark: The Unknown Origin Story of a Modern Basketball Superstar” captures both the historic nature of Clark’s rise and the critical context over the previous century that helped make it possible.
This week, USA Gymnastics announced the attendees from its May National Team camp.
These include the six gymnasts selected for the Pan American Championships (a five-woman team and a traveling alternate).
Hard to believe this is only Hezly Rivera’s third international assignment, since the second was the Paris Olympic Games. (The first was Jesolo last spring.) It’s great to see her back in gear; her appearance at Winter Cup in February, where she fell on beam — her only event — raised a few eyebrows. But Pan Ams is a big deal and so is her selection here.
Tiana Sumanasekera was one of two non-traveling alternates for Paris, and she committed this year to competing NCAA for UCLA, beginning in 2026. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we’ve been waiting on tenterhooks to see more of her lovely gymnastics, and I’m excited to see her on this team.
Florida snapped up Dulcy Caylor for its incoming freshman class, and she’s a great addition to the Pan Ams team before she heads off to Gainesville.
Jayla Hang’s star continues to rise with this assignment; she won’t begin college until 2027, so hopefully this is just the beginning of the high-profile elite assignments for her.
The assignment got Gabrielle Hardie and Alessia Rosa added to the senior women’s national team, and I can’t wait to see how far they go from here.
The 2025 Pan American Championships will take place in Panama City, Panama, from June 12-15.
