Dulcy Caylor, Skye Blakely, Joscelyn Roberson, and Leanne Wong are headed to Jakarta.
Caylor was the unexpected winner of the automatic spot after winning the all-around competition on the first of two days of trials with a 55.25. You can see the results from the world championships trials here, thoughtfully compiled by Lauren Hopkins of The Gymternet.

On that first day, Wong and Roberson finished second and third, respectively, to Caylor; Blakely did not compete in the all-around and did not finish in the top three in either bars or beam.
But the second day, when gymnasts could select two events to compete, Blakely won both bars and beam, securing her spot. Wong won vault, which is huge for her, and Roberson was third on vault. With Blakely neither vaulting nor doing floor and Caylor strong on all events without a powerhouse specialty, the U.S. needed two strong vaulters who could also perform on floor.
In a post-Olympic year when worlds has no team competition, those left out of worlds selection are generally the strong all-arounders. In this case, the U.S. will leave Ashlee Sullivan and Jayla Hang, both of whom had strong showings at trials in all events, at home. Both would have likely made a squad selected for the likelihood of a team medal. Wong has often been in this position, but this year, she made the team after showing medal potential on vault. Both she and Roberson were Olympic alternates and are now getting a shot as team members.
Blakeley’s return to competition is near-miraculous. It was just a year ago that she tore her Achilles tendon in warmups at the Olympic trials and was carried off the floor. Now she is back, competing in her two strongest events and getting the opportunity to showcase them on the world stage before she returns to Florida for the NCAA season.
Caylor, who has long been a strong player on the national team, is finally getting her moment to shine. This isn’t her first international assignment, but it is certainly the biggest.
