Howard starts with a reflection on the impact of UConn sophomore Sarah Strong, who is averaging 18.3 points per game for the Huskies. She went 10-for-18 with 23 points against the Hawkeyes.

“Having Sarah Strong be able to do everything, be able to simultaneously guard guards and protect the rim — and I mean that quite literally — I mean the same possession can be somebody who protects the rim, but is the closeout on three-point shooters a very big deal, but it goes so far beyond that,” Megdal said.

Powell added some recognition for defensive leaders KK Arnold and Blanca Quinonez. Then, later in the show, they also discuss the latest developments in WNBA CBA negotiations, giving an in-depth explanation of where each side stands on gross and net revenue.

Powell uses a hypothetical $1 million player pool to walk listeners through the math:

“What has been reported is that the players want 30% of that full pot before deductions. So you take 30% out of $1 million, and you get $700,000, then you subtract the $700,000 from $1 million, and then you get $300,000 that is the player’s share through a gross revenue system. And so I also want to make note that when we’re talking about players’ share, we aren’t just talking about salary… It’s their salary, it’s their benefits, health benefits, mental health benefits, housing, 401, K, retirement. It’s a lot of things that go into their share.”
