It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features Howard Megdal and The Next’s Atlanta Dream beat reporter Gabriella Lewis to discuss a dramatic final weekend, what happened to Tiffany Hayes and just what the outlook ahead is for Rhyne Howard after an incredible rookie year.
Gabriella talks about the final weekend for the Atlanta Dream:
“The last weekend was dramatic, as things are in the W often. So the Dream played the New York Liberty back to back, first at home on Friday and then away on Sunday. And these were Do or Die games. They could have clinched a playoff spot with one, but two would have been good. They lost on Friday; we’re down 21 points and came back almost but couldn’t quite finish it off.
And then Sunday, It was true Do or Die. If they don’t win this, they will not clinch a playoff spot. And you know, something like 15 lead changes back and forth and back and forth. And unfortunately for the Dream, they couldn’t pull it out. But that ended their season.”
Gabriella talks about Rhyne Howard’s bright future in the league and with the Atlanta Dream:
“What I keep saying is Rhyne Howard is a generational talent and other folks have told me this as well. And there’s something really special about her and she’s still young; there’s still times where she’s got room to grow. But I think she’s going to be a really important clutch player, an important compact player and ultimately an important playoff player for years to come. And I think Atlanta is going to do everything they can to keep her.”
