It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features host Howard Megdal, who is joined by Megan Griffith, the Columbia product who returned home to build the Lions’ program and led them deep into the WNIT last season.
Griffith talks about her system and the shooting percentage:
“Our goal is we want to get up at least 30 threes a game. That’s something that’s been important to us. Abbey’s going to get her shots up, and I always say an open catch-and-shoot three [for] Abbey Hsu … her freshman year, she shot 75% on catch-and-shoot threes. But guess what, she doesn’t get a lot of those anymore. So for players like Kitty Henderson, Carly Rivera, Jaida Patrick, Kaitlyn Davis, Hannah Pratt, Paige Lauder, you go down the line, all of them are comfortable shooting the three. Now it’s a matter of mentality and making that mental switch to take the shot when you have it.”
Griffith talks about the Lions’ tough schedule and whether her team can handle it:
“Most definitely. This is something we talk about a lot. And within our conference, when we get together, we have to schedule better; we just do. And I’ve been a big proponent of that since day one. … I’ve understood, too, with the NET ranking and how it is and it hasn’t quite evolved yet to the level of the intricacies of the men’s NET ranking. … You need to schedule good teams. That’s basically what it comes down to.”
