In the latest episode of Locked On Womenโs Basketball, Hunter Cruse and Em Adler talk about their takeaways from preseason games around the WNBA. They begin with the Indiana Fever, which boasts back-to-back No. 1 overall draft picks in forward/center Aliyah Boston and guard Caitlin Clark.
Em talks about her overall impressions of the Fever so far:
“I think there were a lot of reasons to just be really encouraged by the Fever’s preseason games, and beyond just the, hey, Caitlin Clark looks really good against professional players, which we expected. … I think the setup is what you’re looking for. … It’s not like everyone is trying to really get their own and play their own way and try to be the star of the show. … The just way that they are playing together and the chemistry I think is very readily apparent, the way that they’re able to set up each other, just all of these moving parts.”
Em also explains the difficulties of evaluating Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese, who was drafted seventh overall:
“She’s a generational rebounder. She hustles hard. She is a very good competitor. … She’s a good player. It’s just hard to take away much from Chicago … in the regular season, let alone the preseason, just because … they are in just such a rough spot as things go there. The context is gonna be weird. She’s gonna get runway, which is fun.”
