The NCAA gymnastics transfer portal (and its accompanying rumors and intrigue) is in full swing right now, as we are in the 45-day period following the National Championship meet.
Yet one of the highest-profile transfers rumored doesn’t involve the portal at all.
How’s that?
Morgan Price of Fisk has announced that she will transfer for her final year of eligibility.
Fisk does not compete as part of the NCAA. They compete as part of the HBCU Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Therefore, because Price has not competed in the NCAA, she does not have to enter the transfer portal. She can just … transfer.
Price has made history many times over in her career. In 2022, she joined Fisk’s debut gymnastics team, which also happened to be the first gymnastics team at a historically Black college or university (HBCU). Last year, Price became the first HBCU gymnast to win the all-around title at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships. Last month, she repeated as national AA champion AND swept the rest of the event titles (tying bars with another gymnast, but winning the rest outright).
Price is also the first HBCU gymnast to score a perfect 10. She hit a perfect bars set in February during a tri meet against Penn and Southern Connecticut State University.
Originally an Arkansas commit, Price said that she had joined Fisk’s team to “represent something bigger than [herself]” and to set an example for future generations of gymnasts looking for the HBCU experience as well as the college athlete’s experience.
Now, she’s got a year left to take her talent to a bigger stage. Cheers to Morgan Price for making history and not stopping there.
