It may be the offseason, but there’s still plenty of women’s soccer news to keep up with. The IX Sports is making it easier with the launch of our new vertical, The IX Soccer.
Host Kathleen Gier welcomed Howard Megdal, founder and editor-in-chief of The IX Sports, to discuss the vertical’s introduction.
“The fact that there are multiple leagues right here in the United States, what we’re seeing overseas in Great Britain, what we are seeing all over this world of women’s soccer requires something that extends beyond just a story here or a story there,” Megdal said. “It extends into a chance to cover this as a true vertical.

After her discussion with Megdal, Gier breaks down two key pieces of offseason news in the NWSL. The first is Lindsay Heaps’ decision to join the Denver Summit, a new expansion team in her hometown, after spending the last four years with Lyon Fรฉminin in France. She plans to join the Summit after her season overseas ends.
“It’s just a big deal to have the national team captain come home. As we kind of continue these conversations about players leaving โ we have rumors that Sam Coffey is now leaving and going overseas โ and players potentially coming back, players coming back for pregnancy and making those decisions for themselves, this is just another really interesting piece to that puzzle.”
The second is the announcement of Chris Armas as the Kansas City Current’s new head coach. He is a former MLS and USMNT player. This will be just the second time he has been a women’s soccer coach, despite having 17 years of coaching experience.
