The Montréal Victoire have signed Luleå HF defender and Italian team captain Nadia Mattivi to a standard player agreement. In a corresponding move, the team placed Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin on LTIR, retroactive to March 15th. She is eligible to return with the team as soon as April 5th.
Mattivi joins the Victoire after wrapping up her season in the Swedish Women’s Hockey League (SDHL) with Luleå HF, who exited the playoffs last week. In 22 games played this year, Mattivi tallied five goals and 23 points. In 2025, Mattivi was named SDHL Defender of the Year in her rookie season with Luleå HF. She brings size on the blue line at 5-foot-10, 176 lbs.. As Erin Ambrose remains on LTIR, signing Mattivi gives Montréal more flexibility defensively.
A native of Trento, Italy, Mattivi served as her country’s captain in February, as they hosted the Winter Olympic hockey tournament in Milan. It was Italy’s first appearance at the Games since they last hosted in 2006. Mattivi assisted on the Italy’s tournament-opening goal, helping defeat France for their first ever win at the Olympics. She then added a second assist in a win over Japan, advancing Italy to the knockout round, where they fell to the US.
Before heading to the SDHL in 2024, Mattivi previously played five seasons at Boston University. From 2022-2024, she served as team captain for the Terriers, the same honour held by Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin a decade prior.
Poulin, meanwhile, has been placed on LTIR after suffering a lower-body injury on March 15th against the Boston Fleet. She has been in and out of the lineup since the Olympic break, after suffering a knee injury against Czechia in Milan. Against the Fleet, it appeared that she re-aggravated that injury. Poulin has 17 points in 18 games played this season.
The Montréal Victoire are currently in a tight race for first place in the PWHL with 9 games remaining. Mattivi has joined the team in Minnesota, where the Victoire take on the Frost on Wednesday night.
