This week on The IX Sports Podcast Soccer Edition, host Kathleen Gier is joined by Stanford Women’s Soccer midfielder/forward Charlotte Kohler to discuss the start of NCAA Soccer this year.
The top story on the podcast this week is the departure of Sporting Director Vladko Andonovsky from the Kansas City Current.
“I plan to dive into that later this week, but it feels like a really surprising move for this club. Andodowski has been really well liked among players,” Gier said, citing Instagram posts from current players.
“He’s been a really foundational member of the Kansas City soccer community, having led FC Kansas City to two NWSL titles before the franchise folded. He took over as coach of the Current in 2024 led the club to that historic Shield-winning-season last year,” Gier said.

Then, Gier jumped into an interview with Kohler, who is the leading scorer at Stanford, which is the top-ranked college program in the country right now.
“Charlotte has scored in six of Stanford’s seven matches this season and has at least one point in all seven. She’s contributed 10 of the Cardinals’ 25 goals so far. Stanford is just on an absolute tear to start the season. They have outscored opponents 24 to two so far this season, allowing both of those goals in a tie with USC last Thursday,” Gier said.
In the interview, Kohler said Stanford is a special place because of the way it balances academics and athletics. She said she has grown during her time in the program, as both an athlete and a leader.
“I think something that’s really special is just the way that this team pushes each other every day. Practice is so competitive, so then when we go into games, we know that we’ve played against the best because we’ve played against each other, and that can give us a lot of confidence, Kohler said.
