Live from New York, our Jackie Powell and Howard Megdal are back with their immediate reporting and reactions to the 2026 WNBA Draft. It was a busy night, with Azzi Fudd going first overall to the Dallas Wings, but there was so much more to break down.
Before the proceedings even began, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert took to the podium and made news. The league plans to play a game outside of North America in 2027, she said.
“There’s this question of, well, okay, what’s next for the WNBA?” Powell said. “And so it seems like what is next is globalization. And so Cathy Engelbert has used this word at length.”
The duo also highlighted a number of picks who stood out to them, with Megdal citing Lauren Betts at fourth overall to the Washington Mystics, Ta’Niya Latson at 20 to the Los Angeles Sparks and Justine Pissott at 25 to the Indiana Fever.
“The steal of the draft? Ta’Niya Latson. She lasted until the 20th pick in the draft, to the Los Angeles Sparks. You just got an absolute steal. And now what does Ta’Niya get to do? I talked to her about this after the draft. Now she gets to go learn from an incredible, strong two-way downhill guard in Kelsey Plum. I cannot wait to see what Ta’Niya Latson turns into.”
