On today’s episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball, our Saturday WNBA Draft crew returns with another deep-dive scouting report on college basketball’s top prospects, this time focused on Stanford center Cameron Brink.
“So imagine a player, they’re 6’4, they have a 6’8 wingspan,” co-host Em Adler said. “They can shoot threes, they are occasionally a dominant post scorer, they have shown flashes of being maybe the best post-up kick-out passer in the game, they have an unstoppable motor, they are the best rebounder in the game, and they [possess] a pretty plus handle for someone of their size. That’s Cameron Brink. She is exactly what you would come up with if you were trying to think of the perfect post.”
Co-host Lincoln Shafer focused on one of Brink’s more underrated skills: her passing.
“I think the thing that gets most underrated is her passing ability. … Almost every time that I watch Cameron Brink play, there’s a couple of passes that she makes that just blow my mind. The one that sticks with me the most is there [was] a possession against UCLA last year where she gets the ball on a defensive rebound and she’s dribbling up the court, and she throws a perfect live-dribble skip pass to the opposite side of the court, straight into Hannah Jump‘s shooting pocket. And she just does that like every single game.
“She’s so good at so many different things. And one way that I can actually back up, statistically, that she’s a better passer than I think she gets credit for is that she is one of two players in the Her Hoop Stats era [2009-present] to score 17 points per game, block three shots per game and have an assist rate above 20%.”
Tune in to hear more about Brink’s strengths and weaknesses as a prospect, which WNBA teams she would fit best on, how she compares to other prospects at her position and size, and plenty more!
