Harrison Browne is the first openly transgender athlete in any American professional sports’ league, as reported by ESPN in an article Friday morning.
Dani Rylan expressed her support for Browne in ESPN’s article and also said that the NWHL is currently working on a policy that will include transgender athletes, which is a positive step in the second-year league.
“At the end of the day, Harrison is the same player he was last year,” Rylan told Michele Steele of ESPN. “We’re here to support him.”
The Beauts, including head coach and GM Ric Seiling, also expressed their support for Harrison.
“Support has been a major thread of our team unity and sucecss. And that goes beyond the rink,” said Seiling.
Browne is in his second year with the Buffalo Beauts. He signed a one-year contract for $14,000.
