Trinity Rodman, Sophia Wilson, and Mallory Swanson โ aka Triple Epresso โ are back together on the US Women’s National Team after nearly two years, and they couldn’t be happier about it.
The trio spoke to reporters for 18 minutes from Sรฃo Paulo Wednesday as they and their temmates prepare to play two friendlies against Brazil on June 6 and 9. But the morning’s focus was less on the upcoming matches and more on the three beaming women who were there to speak about them.
Rodman emphasized that she’s happy to have Wilson and Swanson back on and off the field. “Their personalities are amazing to have in camp โ having my sisters back is amazing,” she said. “And then on the field, I feel like our connection is so good. Being able to play with them again has been really good, and Iโm excited to keep doing it.”
The last time all three played together was during the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, where Team USA took home the gold. Triple Espresso combined for 10 goals during the Games (out of the 12 total the Americans scored), and Swanson scored the final goal that earned the team the gold.

The team has grown in new ways
Swanson, who gave birth to her daughter Josie in November 2025, told reporters there’s been a lot of growth in her absence. Though she’s only just returned to NWSL club Chicago Stars FC, national team coach Emma Hayes previously said she wanted Swanson in Brazil because the Olympic team roster has changed.
“I was obviously watching the games [while out] and keeping up and trying to not only just watch as a fan but also as a player,” Swanson said, “and just see the tactical game of what we’re trying to achieve.”
“I think that thereโs been a lot of depth within that, and Emmaโs done a great job of getting so many different players on the same page with that,” Swanson added.
Swanson isn’t the only member of the trio who had to work her way back to Olympic-level physicality: Rodman suffered a back injury that kept her off the pitch at times, and Wilson gave birth to her daughter, Gigi, last September.
“I feel like the team has done a lot in the time that Mal and I have been gone, but theyโve done a really good job of making sure that we are getting caught up and feel like when we come back into camp, like we havenโt missed a beat and can kind of just get back on the ground and flying,” Wilson said. “Itโs been good, itโs been fun, and obviously, itโs so good to be back with these girls.”

The trio has an infectious joy
Despite the time it’s taken for the three to be reunited, it was clear they were thrilled to see one another. After Swanson and Wilson both expressed that they’ll miss their young children while in Brazil, especially since this is the first time they’ve each traveled away, Rodman lay across their laps and offered, “Iโll be your guysโ baby.”
They also acknowledged their “Espresso” moniker, a slight play on Michelle Akers, Carin Jennings-Gabarra, and April Heinrichs, who were affectionately known as “Triple-Edged Sword” during the early 90s.
“I feel like it’s a fun name among everyone,” Wilson said of their group’s nickname. “I feel like we do a good job of keeping our own identity and being individuals and bringing what makes us unique to the field, while also playing really well together and having that chemistry.
While they were happy to be together, all three made it clear they’re ready to work. When asked about the upcoming matches against Paris 2024’s silver medal winners, Rodman answered, “Brazil’s always a really hard opponent, and for us, I think the biggest thing is controlling the game. I think they’re really good on the mind side, they’re good at getting set pieces and throw-ins and getting the ball out of bounds,” she said.
“So, I think being able to take the control and have it in play and kind of dictate things will be important, but yeah, they’re a very talented team, they’re very aggressive, and they always start out really fast. So, I think, yeah, it’ll be important the way that we come out against them.”
Team USA will first play Brazil in Sรฃo Paulo on Saturday, and the teams will meet again in Fortaleza the following Tuesday.
