USWNT releases roster for January matches

Hayes' young roster will take on Paraguay and Chile at the end of the month

On Thursday, Jan. 8, U.S. women’s national soccer team coach Emma Hayes released her 26-person roster for the team’s upcoming two friendly matches that will take place at the end of the month.

All 26 players receiving call-ups are active in the NWSL (except, technically, for Trinity Rodman, who is currently ‘unattached’ while her contract with the Washington Spirit, and the league in general, is sorted out). This is an unconventional choice for Hayes, yet also unsurprising, given that the international leagues that house USWNT superstars are currently in season while the NWSL is not.

Additionally, no players from Gotham FC were available for this camp as they will be facing Corinthians of Brazil in the 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup in England at the time of the January friendlies. But these circumstances gave Hayes the opportunity to do what she loves — widen the pool. In her 30 games coached for the USWNT, Hayes has given 27 players their first caps.

Perhaps the most notable name on the roster belongs to Rodman, the Washington Spirit forward and national team mainstay who missed the majority of 2025 action — both domestic and international — due to injury. Rodman, who only made one appearance for the USWNT in 2025, has the most caps (47) and goals (11) of anyone on the roster.

The roster also includes four players who will receive their first national team call-ups: Riley Jackson, Sally Menti, Maddie Dahlien and Reilyn Turner. Menti and Dahlien both play for Seattle Reign FC, while Turner plays with the Portland Thorns and Jackson with the North Carolina Courage. All but Turner have earned significant experience with the USWNT U-23 squad.

This team, with an average age of 24.1 and with an average caps-per-player of 6.6, will face Paraguay on Jan. 24 and Chile on Jan. 27. The former match will be played at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., and the latter at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara.
