On the latest episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball, host Howard Megdal sits down with Lucas Seehafer, Minnesota Lynx beat writer for The Next. Megdal and Seehafer open the show by discussing the endemic of injuries plaguing the league, and debate why they think this problem is occurring. They also focus on Lynx forward Napheesa Collier‘s dynamic start to the season. They even go as far as to consider her as the eventual season MVP.
Megdal and Seehafer get right into injury talk. “We’re now up to 41 injuries or illnesses that have already occurred,” Seehafer informs the audience. “That number 41 is higher than what we saw at this time last year … which is concerning.” Megdal concurs, and asks if these injuries are happening in a more significant way than last year. Seehafer asserts that, yes, the injuries are more significant. However, that’s only part of the reason. “There are more games, more opportunities to get hurt.”
Megdal and Seehafer move onto discussing the Lynx’s progress this season. They go through the roster, but as Megdal points out, “we can’t talk about this team without talking about Collier.” Seehafer agrees on Megdal’s assertion of Collier’s dominance. “It’s early,” he says, “but she’s got to be at least if not among the candidates, maybe potentially even the favorite” for MVP.
