On this episode of the Locked On Women’s Basketball podcast, host Hunter Cruse catches up with Toledo’s fifth-year senior Quinesha Lockett. He revealed that Lockett is a Top 25 prospect on The Next‘s 2023-24 Draft Board after helping to lead the Rockets to a Mid-American Conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance last season.
To start their interview, Cruse asked Lockett to describe her own game and where she sees her strengths as a prospect.
“I would say I’m a pretty fast player,” Lockett said. “I’m a slasher, like I like to get to the rim. I like driving in there again to the lane. But, I’m also a three-level score like I can shoot the three. And I can also hit that pull-up. But I will also say I like to play defense too. Like I’m a defensive player, I feel like defense gets my offense going. So once I get a good stop on [defense], then I know I’ve made my presence in the game. I’m here. And now we can start scoring offense.”
The two also looked back to Toledo’s NCAA Tournament victory against Iowa State last year. It was the program’s first time advancing to the second round since 1996.
“The experience was amazing, mind-blowing,” Lockett said. “Something I learned about myself was like, I wasn’t satisfied. Like, I was not satisfied just making it to the second round. I want it to keep going and moving forward. And one of our [goals] now is like Sweet 16. We’re trying to put it in the atmosphere and make it so we can keep going forward.”
In segment three, Cruse discussed a few of the other prospects he is watching from the collegiate and international ranks including Louisville’s Sydney Taylor, Carla Leite of France and Alicia Flórez of Spain.
