It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features host Howard Megdal who couldn’t stop thinking about what he’d seen of Molly Bolin Kazmer, the iconic scorer in the women’s pro league the WBL, as he watched Chelsea Gray dominate the finals.
Molly talks about the correlation between the WBL and WNBA:
“I would basically start by saying that if you connect the dots from the WNBA of today going back through the history to the very beginning with the WBL you can see that there’s an influence that prevailed even after the WBL. A lot of the players went into coaching and had direct influences on a lot of the players today who, in turn, coach some of the WNBA stars of today. So there is a connection between the past and the present.”
Molly talks about her infamous shot and if Chelsea Gray’s shot is similar to hers:
“I did identify with Chelsea Gray because it’s just creating a shot. But being way ahead of our time, it goes back to when I was in high school back in Iowa when we played the three on three half-court game and it was all about one on one basically in creating a shot off the dribble. So that’s what I learned in the very beginning with the basic fundamentals to elevate on jump shot and create that space from the defensive elevate over the defense.”
