The latest episode ofย Locked on Womenโ€™s Basketballย continues our series of scouting reports on the top 2023 WNBA Draft prospects! In todayโ€™s episode, co-hosts Hunter Cruse and Em Adler discuss Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist and UCLA’s Charisma Osborne. (Note: Because of the video footage in this episode, we recommendย watching it on YouTubeย rather than listening to it as a podcast.)

Siegrist is a 6’1 senior forward who currently leads the nation in scoring. She is averaging 29.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks in 34.9 minutes per game while shooting 52.2% from the field and 40.2% from 3-point range. Here’s Em on Siegrist’s offensive prowess:

“She’s the BIG EAST’s all-time leading scorer. That is a conference that has included … almost everyone who’s ever gone to UConn. That’s Maya Moore. That’s Diana Taurasi. The leading scorer above all of them is Maddy Siegrist. …

“Offensively, she has taken at least 20 shots in eight different play types [this season]. And she rates in at least the 80th percentile in literally all of them. … We could talk about her stat profile for an entire episode. It’s so ridiculous the numbers that she’s put up.”

Osborne is a 5’9 senior guard who leads UCLA in scoring. She is averaging 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 32.8 minutes per game for a Bruins team that is currently fifth in the Pac-12. Em explains that Osborne’s ability to do a lot of things well sets her apart:

“Charisma’s stat profile is pretty quintessential for an efficient guard. For her career, she’s around 33%, 34% from three … She gets to the rim at a decently above average rate; she is [not] finishing there. But she gets there often enough that the shot profile on its face is pretty good. …

“She’s been among the national leaders in the Power 5 in in steals per game [and] steal rate for her career. She’s always been a very efficient playmaker in terms of assists, turnovers, assist-to-turnover ratio. She rebounds well for a guard. She just sort of gets in the nose of things and gets stat lines kind of across the board. And she’s kind of just above average at everything is what I would say. She’s had some years where some things stand out more than others. But for the most part, it’s a pretty stable profile.”

  1. These guys have been dragged kicking and screaming regarding the legitimacy of Siegrist as a WNBA player.
I hope that Washington drafts her and treats her as a young Emma Meeseman who if I remember was initially behind Siegrist when she came to the Mystics as a 19-year-old and evolved under nurturing tutelage. Delle Donne didn’t know how to spell defense and was a mediocre rebounder when she entered the league and now, she is an average defender and excellent rebounder. Does one remember the limitations of Hines-Allen or Natasha when they entered the league. I see Siegrist as a 6’2″ backup to Delle Donne or even fighting for a back-up three spot. She is not a center in the WNBA. She is also a great salary cap investment and worth the coaching and time to develop, adjust and ultimately start in the WNBA.

  2. Maddy has such a high basketball intelligence she has game! She is the purest basketball player Iโ€™ve seen come along in a long time, and both men and womenโ€™s basketball she plays with such easy poise
