It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features host Howard Megdal and The Next’s Chicago Sky beat reporter James Kay, who was on hand to cover it. And takes you inside the particulars of how it all went down.
James talks about his initial thoughts on the No. 2 seed (Chicago Sky) losing to the No. 7 seed (New York Liberty):
“I think the New York Liberty were definitely underestimated heading into this series. What they were able to do yesterday was score 98 points against Chicago, which has one of the most active frontcourts in the league. Courtney Vandersloot, over the last few years, has turned herself into a solid perimeter defender, despite what may be the public perception of her defense might be. Honestly, New York just came to play. They pushed back against the reigning champs in their home. And it was just something that even from tip-off, they were ready to go.”
James talks about Stefanie Dolson‘s performance last night against her former team:
“You know, Stefanie is someone who’s familiar with this team, obviously, given that she played with them since, I think, 2017. So this was a perfect game for Stefanie. The officials really let this one be very physical. And Stefanie is always going to benefit when she’s allowed to be a bruiser out there. She set some screens that were really hard. They set the tone early on that this was going to be a physical game. And Stefanie will thrive in those moments like we’ve seen previously in Chicago.”
