It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast! In this episode, host Jackie Powell of The Next is joined by freelance writer Eden Laase to look closely at the 2024 All-Star Game selections, including the voting process and who the biggest snubs were.

Powell and Laase discuss the unique challenge and subsequent confusion of all-star voting in an Olympic season, the breakdown of each voting piece, who they think were the biggest snubs and who those snubs could have made it over.

Laase on why she thinks DiJonai Carrington was a major snub:

For me, she should have been a lock mostly because of what she does on defense. But she’s a complete player, right? The Sun … are a totally different team with her in the starting lineup … she’s really elevated them. Last year she wasn’t a starter, this year she is and she’s totally taken that role and just really helped this team. I don’t know that there’s anybody other than maybe Alyssa Thomas on the team who is as important to the Sun as DiJonai Carrington is

Laase on Ezi Magebegor being another major snub:

The thing that really gets me is Ezi Magbegor is one of the leaders in the Defensive Player of the Year discussion. And so if you’re going to potentially win that big of an award, then not being an all star is pretty egregious. She was an all star last year, her stats are relatively comparable to that. Granted [it’s a] new year, [other] players are playing differently, etc. But that’s kind of a jumping off point.
