It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features host Isabel Rodrigues who is joined by the terrific WNBL writer at Pick and Roll, Hayley Wildes, for Part 2 of the massive WNBL preview.

Hayley talks about Lauren Jackson‘s impact on the younger players:

“The Southside went without imports. And it didn’t work for them, quite frankly. And they only won; I think it was four or five games. But they’ve come right back and made the biggest splash of all with Lauren Jackson. And then, just on the eve of the season, they announced Kayla Thornton as their import. So their record is incredible. So I don’t know; I think they might have the best record in the league. But the guards that is a bit questionable. They’ve only got three guards on the roster.”

Hayley talks about free agency and who was the most surprising move:

“Oh, yeah. Well, I think a big one is Bendigo Spirit. Obviously, they’ve struggled the last couple of years with getting Kelsey Griffin back. She won some championships with Bendigo years ago. And now she’s back and she’s still a great player. She was incredible in the WNBL last year for Canberra and may be getting older, but she’s going to be great for Bendigo.

And I think there’ll be knocking on the door of finals this year. I think they can if they really have a good season. And then obviously Tiana Mangakahia for Sydney Flames. It’d be great to see her back in Australia. She’s been away for so long. I think she’s ready to go and her playmaking is incredible.”
