It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features host Howard Megdal and Rowan Schaberg, a Seattle Storm beat reporter at The Next. Rowan and Howard discuss The Three Cs of Storm basketball, some troubling inside shooting from Sue Bird, and Breanna Stewart being a light and fun presence off the court.
Rowan on The Three Cs of Storm basketball, as she identified in a June 1 article:
Really it came from Head Coach Noelle Quinn. Those are three words she uses all the time in pregame, postgame, and just anything. She’s just always talking about how a lot of the Storm’s struggles wasn’t necessarily their shooting mechanics or just the spacing or something like that. It’s just really all learning to play with each other.
She always tells a story about when she was in the league, and when she was playing with Sue [Bird]. [Noelle] had an off night or something, and she was just really frustrated. Sue was like “it’s not that you’re shooting wrong. You’ve been playing basketball for who knows how long, you’re a professional. It’s just that your confidence is off.”
Rowan on her experience observing Breanna Stewart, and Stewart’s growth in her time with Seattle:
I feel like everything I’ve observed is a little bit more off the court. It seems like she’s just so much more comfortable, and it seem’s like that is helping her game get even better. She’s a lot more, and I don’t know if goofy is the right word, but she’s just on the bench and having fun. And I know that there’s so much pressure on her … it seems like she’s kind of let go of that pressure a little more, and it seems like she’s just having a fun time.
