The Ice Garden’s Maya Smith is back with another hockey episode of The IX Sports Podcast. On this show, she and Minnesota Frost beat reporter Reid Lemker take a look back at the beginning of the PWHL season and the predictions they made. They also catch listeners up on all the action at the Olympic Games.
Looking at MVP, both explored different options than those they predicted ahead of the season. Lemker picked Minnesota’s Taylor Heise and Smith opted for Ottawa’s Brianne Jenner.
“This season, when she’s been playing really well, they have been going on a streak. And so I think she’s a very key player to that team’s success,” Smith said about Jenner.
The duo also discussed how the Olympics will affect the rest of the season in terms of player stamina and momentum in the second half.
“This is the first time that the PWHL has been around for the Olympics,” Smith reminded listeners. “So absolutely nobody knows what this second half of the season is going to look like, and we’re used to having an international break, but not this long, and not really one where there’s this much kind of distance between the Olympic players and the non-Olympic players, things like that. Like, there’s so many things that could change that we just have no idea.”
