Today on the College Basketball Edition of The IX Sports Podcast, co-hosts Melissa Triebwasser and Michael Waterloo bring you an interview with Iowa’s Chit-Chat Wright.
Before jumping into their interview, Triebwasser and Waterloo discussed new developments in the transfer portal.
Transfer Portal
Schools across the country took advantage of the transfer portal this year. But who’s “won” the portal so far? Triebwasser said it’s Oklahoma State.
“It’s really hard to argue that anybody had a better off season than Oklahoma State when you look at how competitive they were, and what a good core they had, and what a great job Jacie Hoyt has done building out that team,” Triebwasser said, mentioning Audi Crooks and Ellie Brueggemann as two transfer portal pickups. Waterloo brought up LA Sneed and Yuting Deng as two other great gets for Oklahoma State.
Other storylines Triebwasser and Waterloo are following this offseason? Kymora Johnson’s return to Virginia and the mass exodus of players seen at Iowa State, Tennessee and Stanford.
Chit-Chat Wright
Before introducing Wright, Triebwasser explained her role as part of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
“I think Chit-Chat is is one of the most dynamic guards in the country, and I love a small guard in women’s basketball because they’re just so much fun to watch and such a pain to defend, so I think we’re going to have to see what that means for them going into next season in the Big Ten,” Triebwasser said.

In her interview, Wright said she views herself as a vocal leader both on and off the court. She will be one of just two returning starters for the Hawkeyes this year.
She discussed the importance of split-second decision-making during the game.
“I know it’s all, it’s not always perfect, but just being able to clean up those turnovers and make the right pass when I’m able to, like, see my teammates open. I think that’s something that’s big for me,” Wright said.
Wright also discussed the security that Name, Image, and Likeness deals provide, as well as her favorite frozen yogurt combination. Be sure to tune in to today’s podcast to learn more about this dynamic player.
