Cornell forward Izzy Daniel was announced Saturday by USA Hockey as the recipient of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, meant for the top D-1 women’s hockey player in the NCAA. She’s the first Big Red player ever to earn the honor.

Daniel, a senior and captain of the Big Red, led the squad and ECAC Hockey in scoring with 59 points (21 G, 38 A), ranking third nationally in points per game with 1.76 Pts/GP. She beat out two members of one of the toughest teams in the nation in Wisconsin’s Kirsten Simms and Casey O’Brien to earn the award.

The honor secures Daniel’s status as a “triple crown” winner, after she was named both the Ivy League and ECAC Hockey Player of the Year earlier this season. She was also named Forward of the Year by ECAC Hockey, making her senior year one to remember for the Minneapolis native.
