It’s time for another episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball and this episode features a conversation between Chicago Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca and host Howard Megdal. Pagliocca, who was introduced on Oct. 31, spent the last four seasons as a player development coach. He was the Sky’s director of skill development in 2023.
The two started their conversation with the current state of the Sky who fell to eventual champion Las Vegas in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs.
“We have just an incredible core to build off of so you know, we’re looking forward to collectively taking a look at free agents that are out there and keep our vision moving forward,” Pagliocca said.
He will join newly-minted coach Teresa Weatherspoon in executing that vision. Weatherspoon, an Olympian and WNBA veteran, was hired as head coach on Oct. 12.
“It’s going to be an energized, new chapter with Teresa coaching the team,” Pagliocca said. “She brings so much, obviously as a Hall of Fame player and lots of coaching experience and player development background. But, you know, from my end we have so much to work with and be excited about.”
In segment two, they turned their attention to statistics and how Pagliocca is prioritizing development during the offseason.
“Coach Weatherspoon is going to demand that we defend that at a high and ferocious level,” Pagliocca said. “We want to out tough people, we want them to feel us. Look, we could have improved in a lot of different ways. Last year, we could have rebounded the ball better, we could have guarded a lot better at times. A lot of those are choices you can control so I think that just continue to put a premium on effort and, and just wanting to do certain things and found we’d have our coach, you know, I think we’re going to be okay.”
