Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve chats it up with Mystics head coach Mike Thibault

Itโ€™s time for another episode of the Locked on Womenโ€™s Basketball podcast. This one features host Jackie Powell and Lucas Seehafer, beat reporter for the Minnesota Lynx. Jackie and Lucas discuss the jersey retirement of Seimone Augustus when the Los Angeles Sparks came to Minneapolis, the coaching hot seat, and specific areas the Lynx are struggling with. Unfortunately for the Lynx, the answer to the last point is ‘the important ones’.

Lucas on whether Cheryl Reeve and Derek Fisher are on the hot seat:

I think Cheryl will be caching Minnesota as long as she wants to be. When you look at the Sparks’ roster, there’s a lot of talent and if they underperform Fisher will definitely be on the hot seat.

Lucas on key areas of concern for the Lynx so far this season:

You can’t turn the ball that much in the WNBA and expect to win … I scrolled through Synergy before I hopped on [the podcast] today, and the Lynx are currently the worst team in the league when it comes to transition offense and transition defense. They’re also really poor at defending teams in spot-up situations. I think they’re 11th in defensive efficiency [in spot-up situations]. So if you can’t score in transition and you can’t stop transition, you can’t hold onto the ball, and you can’t stop teams when they’re shooting jump shots, what can you expect?
