In the latest episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball, Hunter Cruse, Em Adler and Lincoln Shafer discuss how UConn forward Aaliyah Edwards compares to the rest of the 2024 WNBA Draft class.
Heading into the regular season finale, Edwards is averaging 18.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She is shooting 59.5% from the floor.
“It’s remarkable the way she was able to turn the raw athleticism into a driving game,” Adler said. “The way she was able to add a jumper that just wasn’t there and instantly be hitting you know that 60% I think from the elbows. It’s a lot that goes into it.”
In the second segment, the draft crew turned their attention to the defensive side of the ball.
“When you again are taking someone with a 6’5-plus wingspan and you are watching them defend in space, Aaliyah Edwards is going to outperform just about every prospect ever,” Adler said. “She has absolutely excellent lateral quickness hip mobility for someone of that size. You know, if you’re watching her trying to defend fours over screens, it’s not going to be necessarily what you want. But again, keep in mind, this is a player who has a wingspan of 6’5 and a half. I don’t need to ask her to be doing that all the time.”
