This week on The IX Sports Podcast, hosts Howard Megdal and Jackie Powell break down some of the big questions heading into Sundayโs trade deadline, including the biggest question of the trade deadline: where will Kelsey Plum land?
Megdal said that Cameron Ruby, The IX Sportsโ Los Angeles Sparks beat reporter, asked Head Coach Lynne Roberts if Plum would be a member of the Sparks after the trade deadline.
โLynne Roberts, to her credit, answered that as fully as she could. Nowhere in her answer was โYes, we expect Kelsey Plum to be part of this team,โ and that dovetails with what I’m hearing in conversations around the league,โ Megdal said.
โWhat Iโll add on to that is my understanding of what Kelsey Plum wants is she wants to be the number one option wherever she goes,โ Powell said. She went on to say that the source she was speaking to said that โthings became differentโ when Nneka Ogwumike joined the Sparks.
โSo the idea is, Plum wants to be the number one option wherever she goes, and it doesn’t have to be on a team that’s contending for a title, but it probably won’t be a team that’s at the bottom of the barrel like the Sparks,โ Powell continued.
It is unclear at this time, the hosts agreed, what the Sparks would be willing to accept in exchange for Plum.
Court Vision is also about the Sparks this week, as Powell and Megdal break down the news that Farhan Zaidi โ who Megdal calls a โbrilliant baseball mindโ is working with the team
Also on the podcast this week, Powell sits down with the Washington Mysticsโ Lauren Betts for an interview, where they discuss the teamโs young core, mental health strategies, and Sydney Johnsonโs celebrations.
