It is time for another hockey episode of The IX Sports Podcast with Maya Smith. This week, Maya is joined by Seattle Torrent beat reporter Silvia Leija Rosas to recap the Torrent’s inaugural season and discuss their recent elimination from the PWHL playoffs.

As Silvia wrote, Seattle fell 4-1 to the Vancouver Goldeneys and became the first PWHL team eliminated from the playoffs.

“They were able to get to the net,” Maya said, referring to what set the Goldeneyes apart on Wednesday. “They were able to get those high-value chances. And even though they don’t tend to score very much, they do have goal scorers who can score when they are given the opportunity. And they were definitely given the opportunity last night.”

But now, the team shifts its focus to locking in the first overall pick in the 2026 PWHL Draft through the league’s unique Gold Plan, which the hosts explain in detail as an incentive to keep games competitive through the end of the season.

The way the standings worked out last year, only one team was mathematically eliminated before the end of the season, so PWHL fans haven’t really seen this in action yet.

“It’s really looking like we probably will see at least one other team join Seattle, so it will be quite exciting,” Maya told listeners.
