The 2024 U18 Women’s Worlds wrapped up recently, so I wanted to take advantage of all the sweet sweet data to do some of my favorite viz: the goalie fan viz.

Now, you will notice I don’t have all the goalies from the tournament. This is purely because of the data I have access to: the shot location data is broken up by period, so if a goalie change is made in the middle of a period I can’t properly attribute which shots were faced by which goalie in that period. In previous tournaments this has limited by ability to do this viz to only one or two goalies (and often stopped me from doing them at all), but for this series I was able to put together the data for both goalies for USA, Czechia, Canada, and Sweden. I apologize to the goalies and fans for Finland, Germany, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

Also, please note the nature of a tournament means that the amount of data we’re working with is quite slim, and it would be irresponsible to draw any firm conclusions from such limited data. As indicated in the subtitle of the data viz, no goalie played more than five games, and over half of the goalies featured below faced less than 50 shots across the tournament. If the visualization looks a bit extreme, take that into account. Boulder-size grains of salt, please.
