As part of the PWHL pre-season training camp this past week, nine scrimmage games took place, with each team playing against three other teams in full games that included overtime and a five-round shootout, regardless of the score at the end of the 60 minutes. As the first chance to get a sense of the teams and the league stats-wise, I definitely wanted to make some data visualizations to see how the teams were shaping up.

Now, these data viz get to come with an extra disclaimer because, well, it’s preseason. The goal for teams isn’t to win the game, but to see their prospective players and lines in a game-like scenario. These viz also get to come with an extra extra disclaimer because not only did teams use this as an opportunity to test things out, so did the league, with some experimental rules regarding the penalty-kill. Any and all conclusions, especially performance-wise, ought to be taken with several heaps of salt.
