Ahead of the Paris Olympics, the U.S. women’s national basketball team will compete against Team WNBA in the 2024 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game on July 20 at Footprint Center in Phoenix, the league announced Wednesday.
The first time this format was featured in the WNBA All-Star Game was in 2021 in Las Vegas ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale led Team WNBA to a 93-85 victory over Team USA. This year’s All-Star weekend will be packed with activities, which start Friday, July 19. ESPN will air the 3-point contest as well as the skills challenge, followed by the All-Star Game on Saturday. The New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu won the 3-point contest last year with a score of 37 points. Las Vegas Aces duo Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Grey joined forces to win the skills challenge.
The game will take place the weekend before the beginning of the Olympics, which will run from July 26 to Aug. 11. Team USA will be competing for its eight consecutive gold medal in women’s basketball. The streak began in 1996.
A two-day fan festival, WNBA Live, will take place July 19 and 20 at the Phoenix Convention Center. Fans will be able to attend and celebrate the intersection of the WNBA, fashion, music and culture.
The regular WNBA season will pause on July 18 and resume Aug. 15.
