It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. The Next’s Connecticut Sun beat reporter Jacqueline LeBlanc joined host Natalie Heavren to discuss Game 3 of the WNBA Finals, what clicked for the Sun’s offense and how the Sun balance being themselves and having fun while also playing disciplined defense.
Jaqueline talks about Jonquel Jones physicality in Game 3 and what clicked for her in last night’s game:
“JJ was really physical. And she was determined. You know, she was demanding the ball, which is sometimes throughout the playoffs this season and even thru the regular seasons at times, you could see JJ being a little bit timid and when she’s not necessarily into her rhythm early, she’s not demanding the ball as much she’s not getting those paint touches.
She took on that leadership role last night. She was physical early; she demanded those touches early. She talked about how she really had to focus on doing her work early before Vegas started sending bodies at her in the paint.”
Jacqueline talks about Connecticut Sun’s productive performance in last night’s game:
“Yeah, this team pretty much throughout the entire season and the playoffs, they have repeated again and again and again that they play their best basketball when they’re themselves. They’re having fun. You know, how that kind of looks is they’re being loose, they’re confident they’re playing together. They’re playing for each other. I went to shoot around before the game yesterday and spoke to Courtney Williams and DeWanna Bonner. I asked them a little bit about that and kind of how that plays out on the floor and they both said that they could already feel a new wave of confidence.”
